Foreword for Stephen Crosby’s How ‘New’ Is the New Covenant?

It is safe to say that the root of most errors in believers’ minds is a failure to appreciate the reality and finality of Christ in the New Covenant.  Too many are trying to function with a mixture of law and grace, letter and Spirit and type/shadow versus substance. So much practice in the history of the visible church has taken its cue from the Old Covenant and not the New.

Take tithing as a glaring example. For centuries the mainstream church has relied on the members giving their tithe in order to finance the institution’s needs. The proof-texts for enforcing tithing were primarily drawn from the Old Testament. There were many instances of and statements about giving in the New Testament, but tithing was never mentioned as a benchmark. In fact, here a whole new way of looking at giving is found -- a way that has nothing to do with percentage points, a way that has to do with Christ’s example of self-sacrifice, and a way that simply says, “Give, each according to their ability.” But most church peoples’ consciences are weighed down with a percentage-driven method of giving that has nothing to do with the revelation found in the New Covenant.

Hence, there is a crying need for Christ’s people to see that they are living in Christ, not under Moses; that they are to walk in the Spirit, not follow the letter of the law; that they are married to Jesus, not the Torah. They must understand that the better New Covenant is in force, not the obsolete Old Covenant. Stephen Crosby’s How ‘New’ Is the New Covenant? Provides a deep breath of Christ-centered air in our law-choked religious atmosphere.

The author’s chapters and appendices on the New Covenant and the Torah are must reading for today’s believers. They cut through eons of misunderstandings, and shed needed light on why the New Covenant sealed and inaugurated by Christ’s blood is so vital for understanding where we stand as the New Creation and the New Humanity. Those who read How ‘New’ Is the New Covenant? should see law-rooted scales fall from their eyes, resulting in a clearer view of Jesus’ glory.

How Witchcraft Destroys the Church by Mark H. Evans

I had the privilege of meeting Mark while in Tucson, AZ, recently. He brought a copy of his book along. After reading it, I believe it brings some important and nuanced perspectives to the table that speak to the core needs/problems of our hour.

By "witchcraft" Mark does not have in view wiccans gathering in the woods. Rather, he is concerned "to show how the church has allowed certain people to gain prominence within its ranks who do not belong there, and the terrible cost that is being paid because of it." Thus, the author sees witchcraft as connected to the desire for Power and Control, which is then expressed through Rebellion. "Witchcraft," he says, "is the attempted usurpation of God's power and control over nature, over circumstances, and over people." At the heart of witchcraft, then, "is the acquisition and use of power."

Understanding witchcraft in these terms opens the door for us to see the many ways it has invaded churches. Numerous well-meaning believers have given allegiance to a person, "thinking they were following God, and never questioned what was really going on." Mark notes, "I have seen individuals persuade others that they had a new or fresh revelation from God," but if those deceived by this person "were to dig a little deeper, they would find that the person persuading them was not anything close to how they were representing themselves." Such persons gain power over others "through disingenuous means." They are "usually skillful at attracting a crowd and can be the life of the party."

In churches, then, witchcraft manifests itself often through people who are Narcissists -- it's all about them. Mark observes, "Narcissists can say one thing in private to one person, something completely different to another person in private, and then declare that one or both of them misunderstood what they meant when confronted with the discrepancies . . . . 

 Many Narcissists love the confusion that surrounds them. The intentional splitting of relationships to mask themselves can bring intense disputes . . . . The Narcissist is always up and looking for some way to promote himself or herself . . . . Narcissists have spent most of their lives perfecting their ability to confuse and misdirect . . . . The Narcissist will surround themselves with others who will support him or her, and will often manipulate these supporters to carry out the duties of expelling someone who has discovered what is happening . . . . Obfuscation, control, manipulation, and the quest for power are the tools and goal of the Narcissist."

There are just a few places where I would see or state things differently, but, as Winn Griffin noted in the Foreword, "you may not agree with everything Mark writes," but "may I suggest that you see in this book a 'wake up' call to all who can hear the alarm clock!"

The second manifesto called for the regeneration of society through Rosicrucian philosophies, leading to the anti-Vatican, scientific era called "Age of Enlightenment." The ancient Hermetic "sciences" of astrology, alchemy, and magic had been integral to Rosicrucianism, which is important when we discover that Brook Westcott had founded and run the "Hermes Club" first of all, for three years starting in 1845, prior to involvement with political elitists in the more-intense forms of similar activity. By connecting Westcott (who became an Anglican bishop) and his political friends to the Rosicrucians, we can see that their League-of-Nations movement was an attempt to set up the Rosicrucian "world government composed of leaders of all nations."


Long before Westcott, the Rosicrucians in Britain were led by, and flourishing under, the writer, Francis Bacon (1561-1626). Bacon wrote the book, "New Atlantis," a Rosicrucian fantasy with Scientific Utopia at the core. Does this help us to see that Edgar Cayce was also a Rosicrucian? Recall from a previous chapter that Cayce came prophesying regarding an ancient Atlantis, and that with mankind's discovery of hidden Atlantean records/books, a new Kingdom would be set up on Earth, on/near the year 2000, with a human representative of Jesus as the ruler.

John Dee (1527-1608), the astrologer, was an early scientist and represented the pattern of scientists to follow. It's not hard to see that, aside from Nature Worship becoming the science of Evolution, astrology became the science of astronomy, while alchemy became the science of chemistry. Nor is it hard to understand that both astronomy and chemistry were applied together to advance the evolutionary view of the universe...which is today the science of astro-physics. And so in winning one argument against the Vatican -- proving one truth that the earth does revolve around the sun -- they then made utter fools of themselves by teaching as fact that living things evolved like magic from various materials. To this day, knowing that it's not enough to state that living matter arose from chemical reactions, they state as fact that all living creatures, and their amazing abilities, evolved through mutations!!! 

Dee was a European magi, practicing "white magic" and claiming to communicate with angelic beings through his dreams and crystal-gazing. This, then, is the sort of deluded bloke who partook in the introduction of Rosicrucianism into England's royals spheres, claiming, prior to Bacon's claims, that America was the New Atlantis. Bacon not only promoted the Atlantis of John Dee, therefore, but supported Dee's British-Israelism? Dee had convinced the Royal family that the British were the true Jews; the Royals accepted the idea seeing that they had recently, since Henry VIII, declared themselves supreme rulers of both Church and State...usurping the Vatican all the while.
The question is, why was it that, two and three centuries later, some early charismatic fathers were also found promoting British-Israelism? Could we suspect that the Rosicrucians had by then become such experts at feigning Christianity that they corrupted even the Bible-based fundamentalists...those who joined and supported the charismatic movements? It is important to know that men such as Dee were long-ago capable of amazing sermons and prayers that would fool the best of pastors. Take this Dee prayer for example. From that prayer, learn that Rosicrucians are diabolical deceivers.
And you may have heard that Isaac Newton was a Christian, which is precisely how his fellow Rosicrucians wish to promote him. Lord Northampton, a modern devotee of the Jerusalem-Temple rebuilding project, and head of the Scottish rite, said in an interview: "If you look at [Isaac] Newton's work in the Royal Society, he spent many, many hours and days reconstructing precise models of the temple...because he was convinced that the actual harmonies of the universe were locked in that Temple as the microcosm of the macrocosm...which is exactly what Zorzi had argued."

Elizabeth I ruled after Henry VIII, and in her courts the Rosicrucian spy agency became an infestation. Dee, while working for Elizabeth, was in very fact a spy, and of course it's hard to tell where loyalties lie where spies are concerned:

Rosicrucians owned/controlled colleges and libraries for the sheer purpose of indoctrinating the world into their program. John Dee had a library filled with thousands of "important" works. Invisible Rosicrucians of the early 17th century had their so-called "invisible college" until such time that they could come out of the closet as the Royal Society. It's not surprising that the Cayce prophecy involved a "Hall of Records" i.e. a library.

As an example of what appears to me to be Rosicrucian tampering with the Word of God, the 46th word in the 46th Psalm of the King James Bible is "shake," while the 46th word backwards in the same 46th Psalm is "spear," a clear reference to "Shakespeare," suggesting that Bacon or/as Shakespeare translated at least one of the Psalms. 

Some have suggested that the editor of the King James Version was Bacon himself, but this is possibly discredited in that James detested the Baconian Rosicrucians, and had even published his own book attacking the Baconians (he was supported by Scottish Rosicrucians). It may be due to this conflict that Westcott and Hort would later set out to usurp the King James Version with their "Revised Version" (1881). James was of the Stewart bloodline and therefore, if we believe the claims of "Bloodline of the Holy Grail," of the dragon line. It would not surprise me to find that the first ones to recently promote the KJV as the only true version of the Word of God were pro-Stewart Rosicrucians.

Inner Knowing

            Those who participate in spirit-union with God often fail to appreciate and tune-in to the intuitive spiritual knowledge that the presence of God provides. Paul explained that "the natural man does not understand spiritual things, but he that is spiritual (i.e., has spirit-union) appraises all things" (I Cor. 2:14,15). This inner knowing is both an intuitive knowledge and an intimate relational knowledge. "We know (spiritual intuition) that we have come to know (spiritual intimacy of relationship) Him" (I John 2:3). To the Corinthians, Paul wrote, "We have received the Spirit of God, that we might know the things freely given to us by God" (I Cor. 2:12). 

We are "able to comprehend what is the breadth and length and height and depth (of God's ways), and to know the love of Christ which surpasses (natural) knowledge" (Eph. 3:18,19). Beyond natural logic and reasoning, there is the Theo-logic whereby we can apprehend the supernatural and unseen intents of God. By natural reasoning, God and His ways are "past finding out" (Rom. 11:33), but the Christian in spirit-union with God can "know God's ways" (Heb. 3:10), "know the grace of God" (II Cor. 8:9), "know that he has the anointing of the Spirit" (I John 2:20), "know that he has passed out of death into life" (I John 3:14), "know that he has eternal life" (I John 5:13), and, in fact, "know all things" (Jude 1:5) that God wants him/her to know. Paul exhorted the Philippians to let their "love (God's love) abound in real knowledge and spiritual discernment" (Phil. 1:9), able to "discern good and evil" (Heb. 5:14).


"The Son of God has come and given us understanding" (I John 5:20), John wrote. And Paul prayed that the Colossians might "be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding" (Col. 1:9). To Timothy, he explained, "the Lord will give you understanding in everything" (II Tim. 2:7). 


God reveals things to the Christian with whom He has spirit-union. Paul told the Philippians, "Have this attitude, and if you have a different attitude, God will reveal it to you" (Phil. 3:15). "May God grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him" (Eph. 1:17), he prayed for the Ephesians. 


This spiritual revealing of God's character, God's ways, and God's direction cannot be "taught" by didactic methods; it must be "caught" in the spiritual perception and awareness of "spirit-union" with God. The Psalmist reported, "My inner man instructs me in the night" (Ps. 16:7). Much of evangelical religion is afraid of this intuitive spiritual direction, and seeks to limit revelation to the knowledge and understanding that can be drawn from study of the Bible, denying the inner instruction and direction of the Spirit of God.

JOHN PERIN

(Perrinne, Perne, Peryn)

Personal and Family Life

John Perin was, according to a noted genealogist, born "of a French Huguenot family of nobility" that fled to England after the edict of Pacification in 1570. They settled in St. Dunstan's Parish, London. From school records John's birth can be set at about 1558.
He stayed in London for his preparatory education before beginning his university training at Oxford. He spent the rest of his life living in Oxford associated with the university.
He married Anne, the daughter of Jean Bruneau. The Bruneaus were likely members of the English Huguenot community. Anthony á Wood's City of Oxford register records the death of his son, John, on 30 December 1607. The Translator died on 9 May 1615 and was buried in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford in one of the north aisles adjoining the choir, without a memorial marking the spot. Wood's record also notes the Oxford burial of Anne Peryn on 31 August 1619. This Anne was likely John's widow.

Education

John Perin was admitted to the Merchant Taylors School, London in 1572 at age fourteen. Three years later he enrolled in St. John's College, Oxford. He graduated B.A. in 1579, proceeded M.A. in 1583, B.D. in 1589 and D.D. in 1596.

Career

John Perin began his Oxford career when he was made a fellow at St. John's College the very year of his entrance, 1575. He was appointed regius professor of Greek at the university in 1597, while also serving as Greek reader at his college. He maintained the regius professorship until his death.
John Perin served in at least two church positions during his lifetime. He became vicar of the parish church in Wartling, Sussex in 1605, holding office until 1611. He was elected canon of Christ Church Cathedral in 1604 and served there for the rest of his life.

John Perin and the Translation

John Perin was a member of the Second Oxford Company responsible for translating the Gospels, Acts and book of Revelation. The source documents for this portion of the New Testament were written primarily in Greek. John Perin as a veteran Greek reader and regius professor of Greek was one of the most experienced and esteemed Greek scholars in England if not in all Europe. He resigned his college readership in order to devote time to the translation, demonstrating his commitment to the project.
For a Christian like John Perin, perhaps no greater privilege and responsibility could be bestowed than to translate the scripture setting forth the life and teachings of Jesus. John Perin's contribution to this effort must have been considerable.

Bio Bits

In 1605 Oxford welcomed King James I and Queen Anne on their first visit to the city with an elaborate ceremony. When the royal procession arrived at Carfax in the center of Oxford where four major roads converge, the king's party stopped. They were then treated to a "brief but apposite" oration in Greek from the king's own scholar, John Perin. King James, who was well learned in ancient languages apparently enjoyed Perin's speech. For the queen, however, who knew no Greek it must have proved a puzzlement.
Robert Fludd, who became a prominent physician, mathematician, cosmologist and astrologer, was tutored by John Perin while a student at St. John's College, Oxford. Fludd was known even then as a practitioner of astrology. He related that on one occasion Dr. Perin burst into his room and implored Fludd to consult his astrological charts to determine who it was that had stolen a considerable quantity of gold coins from the professor's apartment. Fludd complied with his tutor's request and identified the culprit. A subsequent search of the suspect's quarters yielded Dr. Perin's coins.
The French Huguenots, the religious party to which John Perin's family belonged, were a devout group of French Protestants who identified themselves with the beliefs of John Calvin. They were a persecuted minority in 16th century France and on 23 August 1572 became victims of a massacre starting on the eve of St. Bartholomew's Day, which left many thousands of them dead. Well before this, Huguenots began to emigrate from France. They began to leave in groups as early as the 1550's going to destinations such as Brazil, South Africa, Florida, the Netherlands, Switzerland and England. As many as 50,000 Huguenots immigrated to England seeking asylum. A French Protestant church was established by Royal Charter in London in 1550 and stood in what now is Soho Square. Other refugees like the Perins associated themselves with the Protestant, Church of England.

It is the propensity of man to formulate religion ­ to take that which is of the invisible God and attempt to make it visible, tangible and controllable. Man-made religion! The apostle Paul refers to it as "self-made religion" (Colossians 2:23), and goes on to indicate that it is of no value against fleshly indulgence. In essence, Paul is saying that "religion is of no value against man's sinfulness." In fact, religion is a co-dependent enabler of the sins of mankind. It is itself an addiction.
    Religion is essentially idolatry. Men worship their man-made formations and structures ­ their ideological idols formed in the concrete of inflexible minds. When the apostle Paul came to Athens (Acts 17:22), he observed their idols and exclaimed, "Men of Athens, I observe that you are very religious in all respects." The Greek word that Paul used for "religious" literally means "to have great respect for demons."

   To document that God hates religion, note the following passages of Scripture:

"...every abominable act which the Lord hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods." (Deuteronomy 12:31)
"I have had enough of burnt offerings...Bring your worthless offerings no longer...I hate your new moon festivals and your appointed feasts; they have become a burden to Me... So when you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you... I will not listen..." (Isaiah 1:10-15)
    "I hate, I reject your festivals; nor do I delight in your solemn assemblies...take away from Me the noise of your songs; I will not even listen to the sound of your harps." (Amos 5:21-24)

    These passages bear out the fact that God hates religion, and all of its procedures and programs; rituals and regulations.
    Religion is inevitably the result of man taking that which is of God and forming it, formulating it, in such a way that men end up "playing God." Men can form idols out of wood or stone in an attempt to represent God, or they can formulate ideological idols (belief-systems, doctrinal definitions, theological theses). The men who thus form and formulate become the "chief priests" of the new religion because they are regarded as knowing the most about what God is like, and well they should for they formed "it."
    There are three features which seem to be basic to all forms of man-made religion. Religion involves absolutism, authoritarianism and activism. Now there is nothing wrong with absolutes, authority or activity. God is absolute, authoritative and active. 

But when any man or group of men attempts to establish themselves as the arbiters or regulators of God's absoluteness, authority or activity, they then begin to "play god," and religion is the result as they impose their perspective of absolute, authority and activity on others.

Most men cannot accept that the Infinite God is bigger than their finite ability to understand. So we set about to reduce God to fit within our rationalistic and intellectual reasonings. We reduce God to fit within our mental "box," then we nail it shut, construct our creed, and absolutely affirm that we have God figured out. We have reduced God to no bigger than our cranial cavity.
    Religion advocates the absolutism of a particular belief-system. We formulate our doctrine, our theology, and demand that others affirm it absolutely as we do ­ no variation; no freedom of thought or opinion; no doubt (for doubt would indicate that one does not believe it absolutely.)


    Such absolutism is the basis of "fundamentalism." Fundamentalism is a religious idolatry that tends to worship a particular formulation of fixed fundamentals of faith. These fundamentals usually include both the detailed doctrines of a belief-system, as well as the meticulously prescribed behavior patterns of an ethical-system.

Such religious authoritarianism creates a "fantasy-bond" of the people toward their so-called "priests." There is a projected idealization of the authorities as being especially close to God -- almost "gods" themselves. The religious authorities then exploit the people, utilizing superstition and fear to control people's thinking and behavior by shame, guilt and threatened loss of identity or eternal destiny.
    Religious authorities must create a sense of direction and momentum for the people; a sense of doing something and going somewhere. There must be a program of activity that will keep people "involved," feeling that they are meaningfully expending their lives and energy for God's "cause." This is also fueled by the self-serving purpose of financing and perpetuating the religious system.

Spirit and Soul

            Before we consider how "spirit-union allows for soul-rest," we need to note how important it is to distinguish and differentiate between spirit and soul - between spiritual and psychological functions. Christian religion, down through the centuries, has often failed to make the distinction between spiritual and psychological function. What they end up with is a mish-mash of psychological spirituality or spiritualized psychology.  Considering spirit and soul to be equivalent synonyms of the "inner man," Christian religion ends up with a hodge-podge of ambiguous admonitions to "receive Jesus into your soul/spirit/heart, and all is well," or "believe in Jesus with your soul/spirit/heart, and work like hell." Is it any wonder that Christians do not understand grace, "the rest of the gospel," and how to allow for godliness in Christian behavior? If soul and spirit are synonymous, then psychological principles should be able to resolve the problems of mankind. Sigmund Freud is our savior - God forbid! (or as J.B. Phillips worded it, "what a ghastly thought."2) That is why so much of what is called "Christian counseling" is nothing than a veneer of Christian and biblical terminology laid over the mush of secular psychological principles. Not at all helpful for Christian living.


But the humanistic premises of an intrinsic human nature are so pervasive in Western thinking, that evangelical Christian thinkers accept the premise and explain that the Christian has "two natures," a so-called human nature, sin nature, Adam nature, fallen nature, flesh nature, self-nature, or old nature, as well as the divine nature of Christ. These concepts of evangelical humanism explain that the Christian has "two natures," an "old nature" and a "new nature" (both phrases are not biblical), creating a schizophrenic duality that disallows Christians from understanding their "spirit-union" and who they are in Christ. Even some of the most popular versions of the New Testament have interpolated their interpretations of evangelical humanism into the text of scripture, mistranslating the Greek word for "flesh" (sarx) as "old nature" or "old sinful nature," etc. It is tragic how modern evangelicalism has obscured Christian teaching, and denied the realities of "spirit-union."


who we are despite our selves and the ignorance of that despite :Christians are "sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus" (Gal. 3:26). We are "children of God" (I Jn. 3:1,2) - no longer "children of the devil," but "children of God" (I Jn. 3:10), for "as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12). Christians are "the people of God" (I Pet. 2:10), intended to "rest" (Heb. 4:9) as God's own possession (Titus 2:14). Christians constitute the new "Israel of God" (Gal. 6:16; cf. Rom. 9:6). We are "members of God's household" (Eph. 2:19), and "citizens of heaven" (Phil. 3:20). Every Christian is a "priest" (I Pet. 2:9; Rev. 1:6) with access into the Holy of Holies of God's presence (Heb. 10:19). We are "kings" (I Pet. 2:9), who "reign in life through Jesus Christ" (Rom. 5:17). Though our spiritual identity was once that of "sinners" (Rom. 5:19), we are now "saints" (Rom. 8:27; Eph. 1:18; 4:12), having a derived identity as "holy ones" by the presence of the "Holy One" (Acts 3:14; I Jn. 2:1), Jesus Christ, with Whom we have spirit-union.

The question ?

The allegorical method of interpretation was first injected into Christian thinking by a “converted” Neo-Platonist philosopher known as Origen of Alexandra, Egypt. (A.D. 185 to circa 254) Neo-Platonists commonly looked for deeper truths by searching for symbolic meanings in the text they were studying. Origen became so proficient in this practice he became known as the “father of the allegorical method of scriptural interpretation;”

. . . Origen is regarded as the father of the allegorical method of scriptural interpretation. He taught the principle of the threefold sense, corresponding to the threefold division of the person into body, spirit, and soul, which was then a common concept. He was a Platonist and endeavored to combine Greek philosophy and the Christian religion . . . . [He also developed doctrines] such as that of the preexistence of the soul, [which] were severely criticized by many of Origen’s contemporaries and by subsequent writers. . . .^[1

The doctrine of the “preexistence of the soul” is a key teaching with reincarnation. It, as well as arbitrary allegorical interpretation are indeed non-Christian in origin. Frankly, many teachings of Neoplatonism serve as fundamental beliefs for Theosophy as expressed in the occultic and esoteric writings of Helena Blavatsky, Alice Bailey, and prominent New Ager, Benjamin Creme. Thus, one can understand why Origen was criticized even in his day.

A Roman Catholic Bishop named “St.” Augustine (A.D. 354-430) would later follow in Origen’s steps. Like Origen, he was also a Neo-Platonist before his “conversion.” History indicates that Augustine also continued some of his earlier practices. They also indicate that he believed the final authority in Christianity was the Church of Rome, not the Bible. This is why he wrote,

 I would not believe in the Gospel if the authority of the Catholic Church did not move me to do so. ^[2]

Consequently, he worked to reconcile the teachings of the Bible with the beliefs and practices of the Church of Rome. In doing so he also resorted to Neoplatonic allegorical interpretation, and by thus, this method became firmly joined with Romanized Christianity.

Many today respectfully refer to Augustine as the “founder of theology.”^[3] Thus, some may consider my remarks about him to be unfounded and unscholarly. Therefore, I present the following as objective reinforcement for my claims.

Neoplatonism, ancient mystical philosophy based on the later doctrines of PLATO, especially those in the Timaeus. Considered the last of the great pagan philosophies, it was developed in the 3rd cent. A.D. by PLOTINUS. Rejecting DUALISM, he saw reality as one vast hierarchical order containing all the various levels and kinds of existence. At the center is the One, an incomprehensible, all-sufficient unity that flows out in a radiating process called emanation, giving rise to the Divine Mind, or Logos. The Logos contains all intelligent forms of all individuals. This in turn generates the World Soul, which links the intellectual and material worlds. Despite his mysticism, Plotinus’ method was thoroughly rational, based on the logical traditions of the Greeks. Later Neoplatonists grafted onto its body such disparate elements as Eastern mysticism, divination, demonology, and astrology. Neoplatonism, widespread until the 7th cent., was an influence on early Christian thinkers (e.g., ORIGEN) and medieval Jewish and Arab philosophers. It was firmly joined with Christianity by St. AUGUSTINE, who was a Neoplatonist before his conversion. Neoplatonism has had a lasting influence on Western metaphysics and MYSTICISM.  Philosophers whose works contain elements of Neoplatonism include St. THOMAS AQUINAS, BOETHIUS, and HEGEL ^[4].[italicized bold emphasis mine]

Thus, Augustine, “the founder of theology,” can also be given some credit for the adoption of the allegorical method of interpretation that is still prevalent in Christianity today.

This method makes it possible for individuals to be guided at their own personal whim and fancy when developing biblical understanding. Thus, notions such as reincarnation can seemingly be supported by using the Christian Scriptures. The official dogma of Roman Catholicism indicates that such practices can take one far astray from what the Bible literally teaches.

Allegorical interpretation was not always accepted by Christian teachers. 

This included the 1^st and early 2^nd century Christian forefathers, and also those who begin the Christian Reformation;

allegorical interpretation, biblical, a hermeneutical (interpretive) method used to uncover hidden or symbolic meanings of a biblical text. Rooted in the techniques developed by Greek thinkers who attempted to overcome the problems posed by literal interpretations of ancient Greek myths, the allegorical method was further developed by Jewish scholars, such as Philo of Alexandria in the 1^st century AD, and Christian thinkers, such as Clement and Origen of Alexandria in the 2^nd and 3^rd centuries AD. Though other methods of biblical interpretation were often used, the allegorical method was dominant until late medieval times. The Protestant Reformation of the 16^th century rejected, for the most part, the allegorical method and returned to the more literal interpretation of the Bible.

The allegorical method attempts to overcome the difficulties of morally perplexing biblical passages and to harmonize them with certain traditions and accepted teachings of the synagogue or the church. By assigning to each feature of a text a hidden, symbolic, or mystical meaning beyond the primary meaning that the words convey in their literal sense, the allegorical interpretation seeks to make that text more comprehensible, acceptable, and relevant to the present. . . .

Though there are explicit allegories in the Bible, such as the allegory of old age in Eccles. 12:1–7 and the parable of the sower in Mark 4:1–9, the allegorical method as it was developed in the post-biblical times allowed an interpreter great latitude for subjective speculation without providing means for critical evaluation of the postulated meanings of the text.^[5] [all bold emphases mine]

In many respects, the reformation is still in progress. Even some 150 years after it began, the renown English mathematician and physicist, Sir Isaac Newton (A.D. 1642–1727), wrote; 

About the time of the End, a body of men will be raised up who will turn their attention to the prophecies, and insist on their literal interpretation in the midst of much clamor and opposition.^[6]

Considering what the Bible and the historical record says about interpreting the Bible, I believe taking it at its plain sense is the only way gain true insight into the Word of God. The eternal destiny of each reader depends upon not only what we learn from reading or hearing God's word, but also how we response to it. it;s wise to know the term's real nature

Aramaic term “raca,” was an offense worthy of answering “to the council (tō sunedriō).” A. H. McNeile in his commentary on Matthew explains that this was, “Probably not the supreme court at Jerusalem, but the local court of discipline (Josephus, Antiquities 4.8.14; cf. Matt. 10:17= Mark 13:9), which met in the synagogue” (62). According to the Babylonian Talmud a city with a population of at least 120 would have its own Sanhedrin (Sanhedrin 17b). 

Scripture doesn’t tells us what “raca” meant, but Jerome, the 4th-5th century theologian claimed that it was equivalent to the Greek word kenos, meaning “empty,” and he defined it to mean “useless or empty” and “without a brain” (Commentary on Matthew 5:22).*

The related Hebrew word rêq meant “empty, vain, or worthless” and was used in the Old Testament of “worthless men” (Judg. 11:3; 2 Sam. 6:20; Prov. 12:11; 28:19). It is right to say unwise ,  ((thanks water  down the term abit))

A little insite on magic !!! a question came asking , here  is some info  you may find  helpful!!

The word magic is derived from Old French magique, Latin magicus, and Greek magikos. One of the earliest definitions of magic is the “art of influencing events and producing marvels using hidden natural forces”. Magic has a strong relation with magnetic and electrical energy. Did you notice that the word magnetic has the word magic in it? Take out “net” in “mag-net-ic” and you are left with the word magic.

The art of magic is often practiced along with certain words and sacred geometries. The common words that are used in magic rituals are the words that produce powerful sound tones when spoken out loud. These sound tones have powerful vibrational patterns, which are used to direct and control energy and harness its power.

Sound is able to direct energy for the reason that it carries certain frequency patterns that attract energy to flow in a controllable manner. Furthermore, sound is one of the natural forces used by Nature to create crystalline structures and sacred geometries, which are some of the building blocks of matter.

How Words Can Be Used as Magic Spells

When you speak words, you are casting your thoughts and vibrations into Earth’s magnetic field or magic field, which is the energy field that creates the reality of Earth. If you are not careful and say certain words together, you can actually cast a spell without even being aware of it. Have you ever wondered why one of the first things they teach you to do in school is how to “spell.”

When you go to school for the first time in your life, you are taught the alphabet, which is made of letters that are designed using sacred geometry. These letters are ideograms which are written symbols that represent ideas. One very important thing you need to know about all written symbols is that they are created into existence from the egg (the dot) and the serpent (the line). The egg and the serpent are important symbols in the religion of secret society.

After learning the alphabet, you are taught how to “spell” using the letters of the alphabet. This is to prepare you for the day you can cast magic spells through the use of spelling! Did you notice that “magic spell” and “spell-ing” have the word “spell” in them? This is no accident. It is right in your face! The hidden intent of spelling is to cast magic spells.

Most people are too ignorant (lacking in knowledge), so they have no idea what they are actually doing when they yell harsh words at one another using swear words or “curse” words. They did not call it curse words for no reason. Are you starting to see the big picture?

Why do you think most parents tell their kids to stop “cursing” when they swear too much? Even at a subconscious level, we intuitively know that it is not good to use curse words too much. Maybe next time we should listen to our intuition and do some research to find out why we feel that way.

The main reason why they teach you how to spell words correctly is to make sure that each letter or geometry is arranged the same way every time you write something. This will help strengthen the magic effects of certain words.

After you learned how to spell words, you are taught to “cast” those “spell-ings” into sentences, phrases, and ideas without teaching you about their magic effects. The purpose of this is to prevent you from knowing the true intention of language, so that the Dark Magicians can control your mind using magic spells. Their magic spells cannot control 100 percent of your mind, but they do affect your mind more than you may realize, just like how subliminal messages can affect your subconscious to a large degree. The term ‘Chapel’ seems to have been introduced to non-conformists in the 19th. century and became popular in to the 20th. century, to be overtaken by the 20th. century term ‘Evangelical Church’. However, where non-domestic accommodation is utilised, the name Meeting House is most appropriate, or Meeting Room where a room in a complex is used. Also, it seems, from the Scriptures, that the only Scriptural name for those who meet in the building is Congregation, or Assembly.


However, we should note. The term ‘Chapel’ has no Biblical authority whatever and it did not originate in true primitive Christianity, nor even in Judaism. The single mention of a ‘chapel’ in Amos 7;13, KJV, is an error, the correct translation being ‘sanctuary’. The word is ‘miqdash’ and it is correctly rendered sanctuary 66 times, and also acceptably rendered ‘holy place’ three times, in the KJV. A Jewish, English Language, Bible, gives this verse;- “prophesy not again any more at Beth-el, for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house.” Let us face it, the Rabbinical scholars know how to translate Hebrew into English better than we do and the Hebrew word ‘miqdash’ cannot, with any justification, be rendered ‘chapel’.  truth speaks for it self  on the terms .
