Too many American Christians today do not want to hear any "harsh" things said to them, even if it is the truth. They want to hear that Jesus Christ is all "love", and they certainly do not want to hear of spiritual warfare. These people are willfully ignorant, and the time is coming quickly when their willful ignorance may cost them dearly.
Many is the time I heard the late Dr. J. Vernon McGee make statements on his radio program (or read it in his books) relative to people not wanting to study doctrine or engage in serious Bible study. And I know from my own personal experience as a pastor that this is the plain, unvarnished truth! Plus we constantly get email from those who want to accuse us of hatred because we dare to tell them what they do not want to hear and challenge their beliefs. but that is just too bad, because preachers are supposed to "comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable", in order to stimulate us to greater spiritual maturity!
Are you comfortable today? If you really understand the enemy and believe what the Bible says about him, you will ignore comfort, take refuge behind God. s armor, and be constantly vigilant. as the apostle Peter exhorts us to do in 1 Peter chapter five and verse 8:
"Be well-balanced. temperate, sober-minded; be vigilant and cautious at all times, for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour" (Parallel Bible, KJV/Amplified Bible Commentary).
