- Unfortunately, though, mankind continued to sin. Nimrod (Noah’s grandson), in defiance of God, attempted to unite the world together (both politically and religiously) by building a tower "whose top would reach into the heavens." This tower was known as the tower of Babel (Gen. 11:1-9).
- Its purpose was to facilitate the worshiping of a false god, to express pride in their own achievements, and to prevent human emigration beyond the boundaries of Mesopotamia. God foiled this plan by creating different languages, but ever since, mankind has been trying to unite the world in defiance of God's explicit command. ((Amazing how hard simple actually is !!))
- After the tower of Babel, God started a fourth time to create a group of beings to return His love and be obedient to Him. Instead of destroying mankind with a flood, which he promised to Noah he would never do again (Gen. 9:11-16), God decided to choose a godly man and create a nation of chosen people.
- These people would become His people, and He would become their God. The Old Testament tells the story of Israel’s covenant with God and their disobedience. After countless warnings that they were breaking their covenant with God through disobedience, God let the Jewish people be taken into captivity and be dispersed among the nations twice—first through Babylon (which lasted seventy years) and second through the Roman Empire (which lasted almost two thousand years).
- Because God loved Israel, he sent his son to die for it and to atone for their sins. Unfortunately, the nation of Israel rejected Jesus as their messiah and had him put to death on a cross. Because of this rejection, Paul and other apostles then focused on spreading the Good News to non-Jewish people (Acts 13:46, 18:6, 28:25-28). These people are known as Gentiles. If Gentiles would believe and accept Christ as their Lord, they would inherit the gift of salvation and being part of God’s chosen that was initially offered to the Jews. This is the heart of the Gospel message contained in the New Testament and the beginning of the modern-day Assembly and Christianity. In essence, God was extending his plan to a new group of people to love and be in fellowship with Him.
